ABOUT ME & WHY I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE IDEA OF BUILDING TINY HOMES

Hello, my name is Josh, and I am the director of Jaya Builds and Jaya Projects.

I'm a young individual with a passion for creating and building things, and I believe that work should be something you enjoy. Having a good time, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and fostering a great company culture are all values I live by and bring into my business every day.

For the past few years with Jaya Projects, we’ve focused on residential carpentry, working on renovations and extensions of high-end architectural homes, and outdoor entertainment areas. We’ve built a reputation for quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, and now we’re excited to take the next step by expanding into the world of tiny homes. With Jaya Builds our goal is to build luxury tiny homes that run hand-in-hand with our current construction business, and we’re really looking forward to what the future holds.

I was first introduced to the concept of tiny homes by a colleague and was immediately intrigued. Shortly after, my partner booked us a stay in a tiny home on Airbnb, and I was amazed at how something so small could meet all our needs. It was in the perfect location, had a cozy, relaxing feel, and made the most of its limited space. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and I thought, "This is something I could do for a living." It combined practicality, comfort, and style in such a unique way, and I knew I wanted to create that experience for others.

During my apprenticeship, I worked on large projects that dragged on for years, often losing the excitement and satisfaction that comes with seeing a project come to life. I realized I wanted something different—something where I could see tangible results quickly, from start to finish. That’s what drew me to tiny homes.

Another aspect that intrigued me was the idea of building in a controlled environment like a yard or a factory. Unlike traditional construction, where you're constantly dealing with traffic delays, weather interruptions, and site logistics, a controlled environment eliminates those challenges. You know where your materials are, there’s no concern about delivery delays, and you avoid the hassles of working around neighbors or unpredictable surroundings. Everything flows smoothly, and you can focus on what really matters,  building a high-quality cabin.

What I also love about tiny homes is that because they’re built on a small scale, you can use high-quality, expensive materials without blowing out the total cost. For example, in a large home, you might need 20 or 30 doors and windows, but in a tiny home, you might only need two or three. This allows us to invest in premium materials for those small details, creating an exceptional final product without significantly increasing the budget.
